Black Point is the point where black is defined in an image, all colors darker will be black to. Black point is set to achieve optimal shadow reproduction.

Black Point Compensation
Printers can’t print all the detail in the shadow area of a source image.
If it isn’t compensated, the black point of the paper will make a lot of the pictures shadow detail to go black. Compensation is necessary to be able to reproduce the shadow area of the source image.

CMM – Color Management Module is an engine that can translate colors between different color spaces with help of ICC profiles.

Color Management engine matching color between source and destination (source being scanner or camera - destination being monitor and output).

Color Space is independent color range that is mathematically achieved. (f.ex. Adobe RGB 1998, Wide gamut RGB, Pro Photo RGB, sRGB and others).

Color Gamut
Range of colors that cameras, monitor, scanner, printer can reproduce. All of those has different color gamut that’s why we need Color management.

ICC
Stands for International Color Consortium that was established 1993.
ICC developed a standarlizition of a color management system that is independent of suppliers and platforms (f.ex. Mac, PC, HP, Epson, Canon and more).

Metamerism
You will see this phenomena when you try to view a color in different lights.
The way you see the color will change depending on the light source.
That is why D50 is the standard illumination, that is used in the printing industry.
When you make a custom profile for your printer you are able to make the profile for any specific illumination source, that eyes would perceive the colors you expect to see.

Color Profile
Color Profile describes how a device reproduces colors.

Optical brighteners create brilliance by absorbing UV light, modifying the wavelength of the light and then emitting the light in a fluorescent fashion. In easy words – it is bluish reflection from the paper which makes your eyes to see it more white and vibrant. This is something that has to be compensated for, in the printer profile. Otherwise the image will come out more yellow.

Rendering Intents
Established by the ICC to define different conversion methods depending on your image.

White point
White point is set to achieve optimal highlight reproduction.
On monitors it is usually 100% RGB. If you compare the white point on different monitors you may see that some are more blue or yellow. The white point of the printer is depending on the paper whiteness.
